Walk 12: It’s All Mine
Our most southern route in this year’s Festival and a ‘must’ for anyone interested in industrial heritage.
Nenthead – the highest village in England – was a hub of silver and lead mining in the 18th century. The mines closed in the 1960’s but zinc prospecting has been carried out more recently. We visit many of the old mining sites, now largely overgrown, picturesque and a far cry from the hard life of their industrial past.
