Walk 3: Mosses and Lichens (Special Interest Walk) Saturday 22nd April 2023
Take a walk through the beautiful gorge of the River Allen with Gordon Beakes, our local mycologist. With its mix of ancient woodland, which has been here since at least medieval times, and more recent ornamental planting, it makes a fantastic home for mosses and lichens. Gordon will explain more about the differences between mosses and lichens and the important role they play in a healthy habitat. Once owned by the Bowes-Lyon family, the estate is now managed by the National Trust and the area has become a haven for wildlife, plants and fungi.
