Walk 6:  Kiplaw Moss and Ayle Common                      Monday 24th April 2023

This walk takes place in the beautiful scenery to be found around the Northumberland/Cumbria border. Beginning at Lintley Halt on the preserved Alston to Slaggyford line, we take the stone viaduct to reach the Pennine Way. From here we follow a quiet, winding lane past Barhaugh Hall which is now an outward bound centre. After passing the disused mines, we climb to the wide open spaces of Ayle Common and Kiplaw Moss. There are good views from the high ground here. It’s then downhill to pick up Isaac’s Tea Trail to Ayle. We cross Randalholme Bridge and pass through woods before reaching Kirkhaugh Station. The South Tyne Trail delivers us back to Lintley Halt.
