Walk 9: Woolsingham and the Elephant Trees                       Tuesday 25th 2023

We are not giving away the secret of the Elephant Trees. You will have to join this walk if you want to find out what it’s all about!

From the starting point, we quickly pick up the Weardale Way and take a steady climb up Spence Hill to reach Sunnyside Edge. There are grand views to be had here. We walk over common land before descending  to West Biggins. We pass Harehope Quarry, now a nature reserve, before following the line of the Weardale Railway to Wolsingham Bridge. From here, it’s just a short distance to Woolsingham.

Distance: Approx 9.5 miles                         Grade:  3, Moderate          Ascent/Descent: Approx 930 feet

Meet: 10:00 at Demesne Mill Picnic Area car park (GR: NZ076375) Free
