Walk 24: St Oswald’s Way – Day 4. Kirkwhelpington to Great Whittington. Sunday 30th April 2023
After parking in Great Whittington, a coach will take us to Kirkwhelpington where our journey begins by crossing the River Wansbeck and a walk over farmland to reach West Harle. We then pass Bavington Crags to the hamlet of Great Bavington. The United Reform Church here is part of the Refill HQ so you will be able to replace your water supply! We then move on to Hallington with the nearby reservoirs, separated by a dam and now designated as a Local Wildlife site. There follows a steady climb through farmland to Duns Moor before descending into Great Whittington.
Distance: Approx 11 miles Grade: 4, Strenuous
Ascent: Approx 817 feet/Descent: Approx 886 feet
Meet: 08:50 at Great Whittington to board a coach at 09:00 for the journey to Kirkwhelpington.
Parking: In the car park behind Great Whittington Village Hall which is on the south side of the village. (GR: NZ003707)
