Walks are graded according to their length, steepness of ascent & descent and the terrain. However, these are guidelines only. Walks may be more difficult in bad weather. Please contact us if you wish to discuss the suitability of a walk.

Grade 1. Easy
Lower level routes without steep climbs, taken at a relaxed pace. Suitable for less experienced and less fit walkers.

Grade 2. Moderate
Short ascents and descents. Could include open moorland.
Suitable for people with a reasonable level of fitness.

Grade 3. Energetic
Over longer distances and over open, rougher terrain with some steeper climbs and descents. Suitable for regular walkers who can manage longer distances.

Grade 4. Strenuous
Longer distances covered at a brisk pace, including steep climbs and descents in open country without defined paths.  Suitable for regular walkers with a good level of fitness and stamina.

If a grade is described as ‘plus’, this indicates the walk is between grades.

For example a walk marked as ‘Grade 2 Plus. Moderate Plus’ is between ‘Grade 2. Moderate’ and ‘Grade 3. Energetic’.
