Walk 25: Wydon Farm Tea Walk
The walk today starts and finishes at Wydon Farm, near Haltwhistle.
Along the route we will see a castle that is reputedly haunted by a ‘Grey Man’, the ghost of a minstrel who was accused of being a spy. We will walk through pastures, along a former railway line and over a historic viaduct spanning the River South Tyne. Finally, we will return to Wydon Farm where our delicious and well-deserved tea awaits.
This walk is accessible from Haltwhistle but will add extra distance to the walk. Wydon Farm is approx. 1 mile from the railway station and approx. 0.5 miles from the cemetery. Details given are for the easiest and driest routes.

Getting There
By Car: Wydon Farm is situated just off A69, south of Haltwhistle. If travelling west along the A69, ignore the signs for Haltwhistle and turn left at the road signed ‘Alston (A689), Halton Lea Gate, Coanwood’ then immediately turn right over the cattle grid. Wydon Farm is approx. 0.5 miles up the lane. Sat Nav users please use postcode NE49 0HZ. This will bring you to a house opposite the farm entrance.
By Train: To Haltwhistle (www.northernrailway.co.uk) Leave the station from Platform 2, past the old signal box, then turn right over Old Tyne Bridge (Blue Bridge). Turn right at the T-junction and follow the road for about 600 yards until you reach a right hand turn with a barrier and bollards. This is the old road over Bellister Bridge. Cross the bridge and take the signposted lane on the left.*
By Bus: Number 685 to Haltwhistle (www.stagecoachbus.com) Newcastle to Carlise route. Ask for the stop at the cemetery. Those arriving from Carlisle will need to cross the road. From the cemetery walk towards Haltwhistle. Take the first road on the right, past a sign for Stoney Rigg Close. Just before the barrier and bollards at Bellister Bridge, turn right into a lane.*
